Answer:-

There must have been political, economic, military and precautionary measure to introduce pig and cow fat grease used in cartridges. Those cartridges had to be tear open by mouth in order to use it. ... Hindus do not eat cows and muslims do not eat pork, and English people were very well aware of that fact.

Answer:-

There was nothing like the pig and cow grease in the cartridges. The news was a result I of a series of rumours.

One was spread by a lower class man who was refused drinking water (because he then belonged to an 'untouchable’ caste) by a sepoy (belonging to an upper class/ caste)in the British army.

The lower class man in order to infuriate and tease the sepoy who had refused to share drinking water, said that very soon anyway your dhamma violated because you'll be using those greased cartridges (pig and cow grease).

There are other incidences too that added to the spread of this rumour, like: Indian many a times in the light of nationalism, intentionally or unintentionally inferred that the ultimate aim of British-rule was to divert everyone to Christianity by destroying their own religions and faith.
