There are many reasons for the British to quit India in 1947 and give independence to India and other countries.

1. After the world war II, GBR was in financial difficulty. They had difficulty with maintaining large army too.
2. British had problems to prosecute S Bose's INA army members. All Indians united to oppose  british in this matter, including Muslim league.
3. Majority of Civil Administration officers were Indians. They were not fully cooperating.
4. The British could not continue their robbing ways of acquiring money through taxes and other means.
5. The awareness of human rights was more. The independence movement spread a lot. The fight was from many corners. The British had faced similar problems from many other colonies too. They had to release them too.
6. The Indian leaders had proved that they could manage and administrate Independent India.
7. Many rounds of talks and discussions succeeded in this regard.  Rounds of talk related to continuing British authority had failed miserably with brave statements from Indian representatives - from congress.

British were forced to leave. Because of Fear. The fear created by the Naval revolt ( they term it as Mutiny). Naval revolution was caused by the INA trial. There was a possibility of 30000 INA soldeirs being tried in the Court of British India as war criminals. Regarding authenticity, the same was confirmed by the then PM of UK, Mr Clement Atlee. Atlee confirms that it was the INA opertation and Subhas Chandra Bose which led to India's Freedom. He also confirms that Gandhi's contribution was minimal.
