Indigo was very popular and expensive during those ages where there was no artificial colouring and stuff for colouring cloths, and since Indigo was already being grown in India and also because of the soil being fertile he preferred Indigo for the increase of Britain's trade and economy, however the Indigo farmers were subjected to a lot of violations of their human rights and were treated badly, so less labour costs for the farmers, more profit from the Indigo for the British for their trade in USA and Europe(dark ideas of General Dyer)
