It became important in South Africa because the majority who were blacks were discriminated in every sphere by the whites which is also called as apartheid system. The constitution was the only means of getting their rights with honour and dignity.

people of colour( blacks) were discriminated and tortured by whites and there was no law to control this as there was no Constitution that gave opportunity to blacks. So, after gaining independence from whites, blacks decided to make a Constitution in order to ensure that this won't happen again in future. so , the formation of Constitution gave equal rights to everyone.
