The main problem was that he was not respected by the management of the club.
Even after being the best performing player for Madrid in Champions league is the recent past he wasn't given the salary hike which he asked for.
Plus, Unlike with Lionel Messi when he was faced with tax evasion case the club wasn't by his side, whereas FC Barcelona stood by their player Messi.

Ronaldo just didn't get the respect which he deserved not from his fans or Madrid fans but by the management.
