the cultivators started growing opium because the british forced them to do so and they suffered because,
< they didnt get proper wages out of it
< they couldnt get food for their family as if they grew food crops they can use it for their purpose but opium can't be used.
<the opium plant can be planted thrice only on field it takes most of the fertility in the soil.
