Answer: They both were heart broken at the news of Kay's disappearance. When they heard Kay's voice in the start of the documentary, they couldn't believe their ears. They were hearing her voice after so long. They both loved her so much and now on hearing her voice, they were shocked. They were so happy. Dad held Kara's hand to console her she could be comfortable after a major shock. A ray of hope would be seen in them that they might have a cue as to where Kara's mother would be. They were also determined to hear her voice after the disappearance.
