Answer:

One reason Dhritarashtra didnt' get punishment for his sins is that he kept Dharma by his side- that's true. He always stayed by the side of Vidura, who is the human reincarnation of Yama. During his whole life, from birth to death, Vidura is with Dhritarashtra advicing him on many aspects of dharma. Its irony that Vidura couldnt break the attachment of the father towards his son. Since he used to listen to Vidura and followed mostly what Vidura said which are always Dharma, his sins are mostly absolved. It is for this reason that Krishna chose him to be the only person besides Arjuna, Vidura, Yudhishtira and Bhishma to see his Viswaroopa.

He was not ill treated by Pandavas after Kurukshetra but was left alone in Pandava's palace making him repent for the mistakes he had done in the name of supporting his sons and for being one of the causes for Kurukshetra. Once all his jealousy, anger and attachments are removed, Vidura suggested that it's time for Dritharashtra to leave the world along with Kunti and Gandhari. The pain he suffered post Kurukshetra itself is the punishment for him.
