Because in the treaty of Purandar signed between Shivaji and Jai Singh, Shivaji agreed to give up all of his 23 fortsand 4 lakh to the Mughals . He also agreed to let his son's Sambhaji become a Mughal sardar and search the Mughal court of Aurangzeb.
