India having several natural resources attracted many traders. The Dutch were among those too. They established their trading company "The Dutch East India Company" in 1605. They traded in Bengal, Surrate, and Ceylon etc. They had been a big trading power in the East.
However, after the establishment of the "British East India Company" in 1612; the Dutch had to face strong competition. Eventually as the hold of the British grew in India, the Dutch dominance and trade ended. In 1825, the Dutch left India leaving it open for the British trade and rule.
