Why did edie decide to steal a cub?

Edie catches the cubs. He decided to follow the cubs and steal one. From his experience Edie knew that a cheetah never attacks a man. Therefore, it was safe to steal a cub.

Because he knows cheetah can attack and cub can't because it is small
