Einstein wrote a letter to the American President, Franklin Roosevelt when the Nazis came to power in Germany.The discovery of nuclear fission in Berlin had American physicists in an uproar.They were afraid that the Nazis could build and use an atoic bomb. In the letter he warned them about devastating effects of the atom bomb. He said that a single bomb of this type exploded in a port could destroy the whole port together with some of the surrounding territory.
