Export of cotton declined because:-
1. Indian cotton was exported to Britain. However, British industrialists pressurised the government to restrict imports from other countries and to protect local industries.
2. The British government imposed barriers on the import of Indian cotton. As a result, Indian cotton garment manufacturers no longer could export to Britain.
3. British mamufacturers started to export their garments to other countries.
4. Indian cotton goods faced stiff competition in the markets of other countries.
5. The Indian cotton garments were more expensive than cheap mill made British cotton goods. As a result, people chose British goods over Indian ones.
