-Mahavira believed that everyone on this planet, whether it be an insect or human being has equal rights to live.

-Jains do not eat meat neither were allowed to kill animals for the benefits.

-But farmers need to use fertilizers/pesticides to kill insects, which is not allowed in Jainism.

-If farmers would not kill insects, insects would destroy the crops. This is the reason farmers did not adjust easily to Jainism.
