Answer:
Fowler was a young, romantic writer who had read a lot about the secret agents. He had now came to meet an actual secret agent but he was disappointed after seeing Ausable because he was very fat and spoke with the Peculiar American accent . He was imagining mysterious figures in the night , the tracks of crystals and drugs in the wine but here was an unromantic setting with the prosaic fat little man.
