Why did france take up idea of civilisation missionary during nineteeth century

France wanted to control over Vietnamese for which they thought to carry out a civilising mission. So that other countries thought that French wanted the benefits of Vietnam and France could easily gain control over Vietnam. France took education as an important weapons for the civilising mission.
