Why did Gandhi Ji lost his hair ?

Gandhi ji did have hair on his head. But as i learnt fron the movie gandhi and other documenteries he had shed his hairs during all INDIA yatra. He continued with his style.
In due course of time with age he might have lost his hair permanently.
