Gandhi wanted his wife and two sons to adjust to European clothes and manners because of the following reasons:

  • He did not believe in culture isolation.
  • He did not want his house to be enclosed by windows as he wanted culture of all lands to blow freely in his house.

Thus, he wanted his wife and children to adjust to European clothes and manners. He started having porridge as breakfast and adopted other few changes after returning from Europe.

Despite of his appreciation of all the other cultures, he was a firm believer of the fact that no other culture in the world is as rich as our Indian culture. He preached being open about other cultures while remaining true to our own.
