Why did gandhiji decide go to muzaffarpur where did he stay there?

Gandhiji decided to go first to Muzaffarpur, which was on the way to Champaran. He wanted  to gather more information than Shukla could provide about the prevalent conditions in Champaran. He stayed at the house of Professor Malkani and met with lawyers and students there.
