Why did gandhiji decide to launch a nationwide satyagrah againt the proposed rowlatt act. explain 3 reason
Answers
Mahatma Gandhi launched a satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act because of the following reasons:
1. The Rowlatt Act was an openly undemocratic measure taken by the British government. It sanctioned the detention of Indian political leaders without any trial for a period upto three years.
2. The law was passed in an autocratic fashion without considering the opinion of the Indian populace which was going to be affected by it.
3. Gandhi saw an opportunity to unite Indians against a common enemy by opposing the unjust clauses of the Rowlatt Act.
Gandhiji decided to launch a nationwide Satyagraha against the proposed Rowlatt Act, 1919, because1) It gave enormous power to the government and no power to the leaders.2) This law was hurriedly passed even after the united opposition by the Indians and other Indian leaders.3) It allowed the detention of political leaders without any trial for three years.4) It means that the British Government can arrest any Indian leader without any proof of crime.
