1) Gandhiji felt that the movement was turning violant and satyagrahis needed proper training before they were ready for a mass struggle.

2) Some nationalist leaders in Congress believed that they should take part in the elections to the provincial council as this will give them opportunity to oppose the British within the council and demonstrate the people that the council was not really democratic. They resented to the struggle but could not criticise Gandhiji.

3) In 1922 Chauri chaura at Gorakhpur a peaceful mob turn voilant and clashed with police resulting in death of many policeman.
