why did gandhiji emphasise with non cooperation

The Non-cooperation movement was withdrawn because of the Chauri Chaura incident. Although he had stopped the national revolt single-handedly, on 10 March 1922, Gandhi was arrested. On 18 March 1922, he was imprisoned for six years for publishing seditious materials.

He emphasized noncooperation because according to him when they are fighting for truth and justice only nonviolent methods could get better ends.
According to him violence was like Devil and bad things never lead to good ends.
