Hey mate here is ur answer...
It all started with the defeat of ottoman Turkey in the first word war which was the centre of Islamic spirituality at that time. There were rumours that a harsh treaty will be imposed on the ottoman emperor or the khalifa( the spiritual head of Muslims all over the world). So to restore the powers of khalifa Muslims all over the world organised a movement. At that Mahatma Gandhi had just arrived India and see it as an opportunity to bring muslim an d Hindus together for the cause India's independence movement. So he along with Shaukat Ali and Mohammed Ali toured all over the country to gather support for the movement. This led to a widespread movement for the support of ottoman emperor. This movement was known as Khilafat movement and it started in this way.
