During the India-Pakistan Kargil War, Bill Clinton called PM of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif and pressurized him to remove the armed forces from the area and stop the war.
Nawaz Sharif (PM Pakistan), under American pressure, ordered to remove the armed forces from the area. This results in severe military castualines and loss of territory.
This turned the army and public opinion against Nawaz Sharif. Despite his 2/3rd majority in the National Assembly, people started hating him. In order to enforce his power, Sharif removed Musharraf from the post of Army Chief when he was on a foreign tour.
