grandmother decided of learning to read and write at the age of 62 because she got to know the importance of education at this age. when once the narrator went to other village for a marriage function, the grandmother at home cryed a lot because no one was there to read her favorite novel for her. she was really disappointed and decided to get education so that she can read on her own.

Because she is very interested in the novel KASHI YATRE which was coming in the kanada magazine as KARMAVEERA. but the problem is she never went to school in the young age so she don't know to read and write.When her granddaughter has gone to another village for cousin's wedding the magazine came as usual.
Then she opened the magazine to understand some by seeing the pictures but she doesn't understand anything because her granddaughter is not with her who used to read for her always so she felt very helpless and dependent.so she wanted to learn the Kannada alphabets.
