the grandmother touched the feet of her granddaughter thinking of her as her teacher, not a granddaughter. So, in their scriptures, it was written that they should respect their teachers, irrespective of the gender and age of the teacher. Hence, the grandmother touched the feet of her granddaughter as a mark of a respect since her granddaughter was her teacher who had taught her with such affection, that she could now read any novel.

grand mother touched the feet of her grand daughter as a teacher of her. every teacher have to respected don't matter what is the age. in the story the granddaughter act as a teacher and the grandmother act as a student. so she touched her grand daughters feet.
