Answer:

Greek artists included the ideas of reason, moderation, balance, and harmony in their works because they hoped that their art would inspire people to base their lives on these same ideas. The Greeks had rituals and festivals for their gods and goddesses because they sought their favor and wanted them to grant them good fortune. The most important type of building in ancient Greece was the temple dedicated to a god or goddess. For example The Parthenon. They might have been of historical accounts. They were of gods, whatever they saw. One of their favorite subjects in Greece was the human body and you see this constantly in examples of their sculpture. One thing, however, that they preferred to do was to sculpt the body how they saw it should be rather than exactly what it was. So they would sculpt it in their idea of perfection and beauty and to show the harmony in life and the harmony of human beings, rather than just necessarily sculpt exactly what they saw. All right. So today we explained why the Greeks believed that gods and goddesses controlled nature and shaped their lives. We identified how Greek poetry and fables taught Greek values.  They also were skilled architects. Architects means building. It's just the art of building buildings. And the most important buildings that they would create were the temples. Again, honoring the gods who were in control of their fate. The most famous one that you probably have even heard of is the Parthenon and that was a temple dedicated to the gods. And you can see in the picture, they used these big columns. And until about 500 BC, they were mostly made of wood, however, after 500 BC they begin making them out of marble. And because marble is so incredibly heavy they do it in small pieces and they attach these pieces together using wooden pegs to make these beautiful columns that we still see in architecture today, such as in the White House you see those columns in the front. So that form of architecture and that style has been spread across the entire world. We also saw many sculptures especially in the temples. They were created-- and again, they expressed ideas. Greek art and architecture. The artists showed their ideas in their work. They believed in certain philosophies and certain ideas for Grecian culture and saw art as a way to exemplify these. They wanted people to see ideas such as reason, moderation, balance of life. And we know that they painted a lot of murals, however, throughout history somehow they've all been destroyed and none have survived. We know they painted pottery because we found it. A lot of times it was either red on a black surface or black on a red surface. They would do large faces that would show Greek myths with gods and even some small cups-- they're small like drinking glasses-- would often show everyday life of the Grecians.
