• The idea of getting an education causes different emotions in Hari Singh over time. In order to become skilled at deceiving others and earn much more than he could with his small-time larceny, he desired to learn to write.
• In a different light, he considered continuing his education. He believed that while it was easy to steal and get caught, it was more difficult to be a truly huge, wise, and respected guy.
• Hari Singh was well aware of the importance of education. He may gain respect, prestige, and wealth through education. The sky would be the limit for him if he could learn to write like an intelligent person. He completely forgot about it during the commotion and intensity of the theft.
• Hari Singh wanted to become educated since he had learnt that having knowledge is the most essential thing in life and that it is preferable than being a crook. He desired to resemble President Lincoln.

At the start of the chapter is a different Hari Singh and at the end is a different .His views towards getting an education changes towards the end.

Ans - Hari Singh a "fairly successful thief" at the start of the story ,is looking to continue his exploits .

He sees a man named Anil at the market watching a wrestling match.His thinks of Anil as simple man,easy enough for his purpose.

He asks Anil for work as he did with his previous employers, but to his surprise, is refused ,as Anil had no money to pay.

After some talking, it is settled that Anil will give Hari space to stay and feed him but Hari has to cook and do some other daily chores for him . Anil also says that he will also teach Hari how to read and write.

At this moment Hari is excited to learn and write but only because he thinks that it would help him in his purpose of stealing. He thinks if he could learn and write it would be easier for him to fool and deceive people.

But towards the end he is a changed man due to Anil's kind nature and the trust shown in him by Anil. He thinks in the end that if he could get educated he could be a big and respected man like Anil. Also he could earn more than he does by petty stealing.Moreover he would get respect.

Though he had ran away with the money ,he soon returns back to Anil's house to continue his education.
