Why did Harold’s parents think it prudent to keep him in dark about his father’s profession ?

Horald's father was a professional boxer but horald was a scholarly child with a very gentle and sophisticated behavior.Mr.bramble and his wife considered that boxing was an inferior profession and it may become difficult for horald to accept the image qualities of his father and displayed by any professional boxer.Hence,they thought it was necessary to hide his father profession from him.

And they don't wanted their child to feel ashamed in front of everyone.
But at last,when Harold knew the truth he was feeling very proud and happy and also said that they would have told the truth earlier to him,so that he could not have been made a joke by his friends.
