The class on English composition was the most pleasant of all because it was very lively and the lectures were always interesting, vivacious and witty. This was primarily due to the instructor, Mr Charles Townsend Copeland who brought literature in all its original freshness and power. In one short hour, the students were permitted to drink in the eternal beauty of the old masters without needless interpretation and exposition. They would revel in their fine thoughts and completely enjoy the works being read.
