The purpose of the visit to Boston was to go to the Perkins Institute in Boston. They went there to see a good teacher for Helen who can teach her inspte of Helen being blind.
The visit to Boston was quite different from the visit to Baltimore because Helen was no longer restless little child requiring the attention of everybody on the train. She sat quietly this time.
