"In the Mudhol Taluk, Halagali is a small village which is associated with the Bagalkot district.

Halagali is the first place where the revolt against the British took place. The prince of Mudhol and few other accepted the British atrocities, but the hunters arouse in anger.

The Disarming Act of 1857 was passed by the British rules, and according to that, men possessing firearms should register their names for securing the license, so this irritated the hunters, and ends up in the revolt."
