____________
HISTORY:
“At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.” - J.L. Nehru
Mountbatten had given a date of partition which was 15th August 1947. The agreement of forming two different countries had been reached upon and everyone was ready for the date when we’d finally be an independent country.
Our neighbours wanted things before us so chose 14th August 1947 and we stuck to 15th Aug and since we had waited for the moment of independence for more than 2 centuries it was important that we celebrated the moment.
So a fifth of humanity that time i.e. the people of India began celebrations as soon the clock hit 12:00 am and welcomed independence at Midnight. Pandit Nehru gave his famous speech “A tryst with destiny” at midnight as 14th Aug ended and 15th Aug started. The speech simply showed how important that moment was for India when the world was sleeping and India was waking up to life and freedom.
