Federalism can be defined as a type of government where both the central government and state government are combined in a united political system. India opted for federalism because it gave a written and rigid constitution to us. it gave powers to different levels of government.

Answer:

India is a vast country with various physical, cultural and social diversity. It is very difficult to have a single unified administrative setup. Therefore, the country opted for a federal form of government. Such a system provides a constitutional device for bringing unity in diversity by harmonising the opposing forces for the achievement of common national goals.
