India opted for democracy/ parliamentary form of government as it was the choice of the founding fathers of the nation. They didn't want to give all the power to a single person or organization as it would result in troublesome situations ( such as situations faced by countries like North Korea). Thus, they opted for democracy in which the government's main objective is to serve, not to rule and the power lies with the citizens of the country.
