Reasons for decline of hand loom industries in India in late 19th century:

1) textile industries grew in Europe thus industrialists pressurised the government to pose import duties ,feared by the import from other countries

2) also these indutrialists persuaded East India Company to sell their goods in Indian market

thus Indian weaver faced two problem at the same time (i.e.)their export market shrank and their local market collapsed

3)when the american world war was started by the same time the raw cotton supply from america to europe was stoped thus europe tuurned to india for raw cotton supply

4)this led to the drastic increase in the price of raw cotton

5)indian weavers were diprived of good quality raw material and weavers were forced to buy raw materials at exorbidant rates

how could then weavers in india could survive
