Ist World War demanded steel, iron, cotton, timber, etc. for the battle. Iron and steel was required for producing guns and tanks, cotton was required for making dress of soldiers, timber was required for transportation (making boats) of materials and soldiers from all over the world to UK and France. Iron, steel, timber, etc. are all industrial products. British forced the people of India to work for them in iron and steel industries, mines, forests [for cutting trees], etc. All this increased industrial output.
