Why did it take 50 years for television to become a common place in homes?

- By 1933 they had produced a few televisions and actually had sold a few to private owners by 1940; but development on TV stopped during World War 2, resuming in 1946; by 1950 there were a few thousand TVs in less than 1% of homes. It was around 1960 when TV was in 75% of homes, and by 1970 it was in about 95% of homes.
