Hii..
Because the revolt of 1857 was not a strong revolt as it lacks armed forces, modern weapons, no unity, lack of planning.
Some of the Indians did not support this revolt and thus were revealing what the revolutionaries were planning. Due to this the Britishers got a big chance to suppress this and control all the Indians in their hand and moreover Queen Victoria changed the proclamations and made new rules and controlled them..
To overcome all this and to plan together took a lot of time..
That is why it took 90 years..
Hope this helps..

It took such a ridicuously long time because we Indians were not armed and united in the course of the revolt. The British took advantage of that and overpowered us in the Revolt of 1857. They kept seperating us and triumphing over us that we lost again and again. But the Revolt had blazed a fire in the Indians hearts to be free. This fire had grown into our minds and got people wondering why they have become into slaves and why did they side their enemies. They started the Revolt when the Indian soldiers refused to obey their British officers.
