Because of the royal patronage of the Buddhist converted king of mauryan empira Ashoka the teachings of Buddhism spread across. Ashoka sent out monks in all directions to go and spread teachings and thus the influence of Buddhism began in southeast Asia .
While Jainism couldn't be able to get such princely patronage an was able to spread to some parts of India only.
