Answer:

It was claimed that jury had been influenced by media and was open to being misled. The government of India abolished jury trials soon after in most cases except for parsis who still have jury trials for the matrimonial disputes.

Answer:

Because jury may mislead or provide intentional support. So verdict becomes wrong.

Explanation:

  • First we have to know about Jury system and Nanavati case in 1959.
  • Jury system means a group of common citizen involve in fact checking of the case and provide judgment by that common citizens in spite of judges.
  • Nanavati was a navy officer married Sylvia. It was said that Sylvia had relationship with her relative Ahuja when Nanavati engaged at navy. Nanavati killed Ahuja when he came to know.
  • This case came under jury council. Everyone knows Nanavati found guilty. But Jury verdicted that Nanavati was not guilty and he killed Ahuja due to sudden provocation.
  • Bombay high court and supreme court charged him and provided life imprisonment.
  • So supreme court cancelled jury system because of their misleading and support of wrongdoing.
  • It was called by amendment in criminal procedure code in 1973.
