The three friends assumed that they were suffering from a certain kind of malady, the remedy to which was rest and change. They wanted a place away from the crowd for this. As suggested by Harris that they should go on a sea trip for rest and change. But the narrator was strongly against this suggestion upon remembering what happen with gus brother-in-law and a friend. George, who was the most agreed with this suggestion, he suggested they should go on a upb the river instead. This surprised both Harris and narrator as they thought George was incapable of giving such a sensible suggestion, however, both of them agreed.
