penny was glad as jody found the fawn because when penny killed the doe, to save his life, the fawn ran away in tears. hence jody was so emotional of that. so he decided to find the fawn. so as per said penny was glad that jody found the fawn as jody didn't know where he was! he just travelled so far to find him and pet him. that's why he was glad.
