Kannauj became very important in 7 -10 cent. because of its location in

the Ganga-Yamuna-Doab region. It was well-connected

with north-west, south and eastern India. Also the rich

agrarian resource base helped in the rise of Kanauj.

Around 8th century there was contestation for Kannauj

between 3 powers - the Palas of Bengal, the Gurjara

Pratiharas of north India and the Rashtrakutas of the

Deccan. This struggle between these 3 powers is termed

in Indian History as the Tripartite Struggle.
