Kemp is a scientist with no secret ambitions and normal social relations. Thus, he shares his experiments with the wider scientific community for general good, which is the purpose of science.
However, Griffin is more isolated from the society; he remains absorbed in his experiments and harbours secret ambitions. Moreover, he is very unscrupulous; he does not hesitate in robbing his own father for financing his experiments and shows no remorse even on his death.
Thus, we see that Kemp turns out differently because of his good intentions and normal social relations. Griffin is socially isolated and secretive, with evil intentions, and this is the cause of his demise.
