Kerensky failed for a host of reasons which included the ruthlessness of Lenin, the organizational brilliance of Lenin and Trotsky, the disaffection of the peasants in the Russian army, the inconsistency in dealing with General Kornilov, the failure of Russia's allies to grasp the crises of the provisional government because of the war and the erosion of authority because of the existence of the Soviets. Kerensky wrote his own analysis. Trotsky wrote The Russian Revolution. There is a book called The Bolsheviks Come to Power. Author is something like Alexander Rabinowich. It talks about the nuts and bolts of the fall of Kerensky with the storming of the Winter Palace.
