⠀⠀⠀Large parts of the subcontinent remained outside the control of the Delhi Sultans because they were very far from Delhi. Even in the Gangetic plain there were forested areas that Sultanate forces could not penetrate. It was a golden opportunity for the local chieftains to establish their rule in these regions.
