He was not rich but he thought to be a royal person.
He also tells his poor old Father not to introduce him
as a poor boy.

In the book Merchant of Venice we are introduced to the character of Launcelot as a servant to the Jew Shylock. This clearly shows or highlights that since he is serving him he must be a poor boy or a poor boy's son.
