Lavina was fanatic about every new fad and the Ouija Board was in fashion at that point of time. She also said she got it for John to help him write so she refused to return it.

because it was brought in a bargain sale so it could not be returned.and she broght it for john to help him to write ghost stories by talking with any writers .
