Their official reason was that to collect revenue from such a big state was difficult

The basic aim was to divide the people on basis of communal grounds. The Congress was also growing at that time,,due to it's Annual sessions,

and Bengal was main political center at that time.,,so partition of bengal was done. On administrative basis ,,but in real on communal basis
